Music and lyrics by Donna Klein © 1992, 2005 All Rights Reserved Sometimes the road that lies before me seems as smooth as glass And other times, a mountain I must climb. Sometimes the road that I travel sets me free And other times, I’m so confined.
I remember how I felt when I first saw your face; How you’d sing the truth to me in songs of untold age. The world would stop revolving right my eyes. The sun shone brightly although rain fell from the skies. And we would Sail Beyond the Sunset.
Everything once seemed so very young and very new, I ventured out unafraid. Seeing the broken dreams that surround me now, I understand the dues that have been paid.
Now I’m resting where the water gently strokes the land; Search beyond the horizon, feet buried in cool sand. And wonder if you’ve done the same thing from a distant shore; Wonder if you ever think about me anymore, And when we’d Sail Beyond the Sunset.
Would you recognize me if we met up on the street, With all those women fawning and falling at your feet? And would you return with me to another time When lovers’ dared to dream, when I was yours, and you were mine?
And we could Sail Beyond the Sunset. We could Sail Beyond the Sunset. We could Sail Beyond the Sunset.
