Why Music?

Making a living as an independent musical artist is challenging and rewarding, and you, the listeners and presenters are the ones who are integral to our success. This article from The Find that highlights some of the ways you make a difference.

Style

A variety of styles go into my compositions. After all, variety is the spice of life! Folk, blues, rock, pop, metal and jazz are just a few of the flavors to savor.

Together, we explore philosophy, relationships, the human condition, humor, global and environmental issues... Satisfying and deliciously different! Comments include: 'progressive,' 'dynamic,' and 'alternative acoustic.' Some characterize it as Americana. I received several awards for songwriting in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Family and Friends Tour

I am starting a Family and Friends tour. I'm not sure where it will take me, but I'm positive it will be interesting. I'm not getting any younger and there are many people who have touched my life over the years whom I'd like to see again. I miss my far flung family. I miss my far flung friends. I want to make new acquaintances and see new places, too.

Actually, I am the one who is far flung, living in the woods of the northeast corner of Michigan's lower peninsula known as Presque Isle County. I haven't played out much since moving to Northern Michigan in 2005, but that is changing. Now that my journey through higher education is done, it is time to get back to performing and writing! I love playing living room concerts, small venues, and festivals.

The Family and Friends Tour is designed to be a perpetual tour that takes me nowhere special to many, but everywhere special to me, and hopefully to you. I love playing living room or house concerts. They are small, intimate affairs, and rarely require amplification other than what resonates from my guitar and voice. All I need is a living room or other room big enough for at least 12 people to enjoy an evening of original music. I love performing and interacting with an audience. Living room concerts offer the perfect opportunity to do both.

My very creative and musical friend, Fran Snyder, is the founder of Concerts in Your Home, a network of living room or house concerts. It is a great way to hear some of the best music you may never hear on mainstream radio! My goal is to be a viable part of this network. You can help me get there.

I will take a working vacation where my travels bring me your way, if you can provide a living room or other space large enough to accommodate at least 12 people who are willing to pay a donation to attend a concert by me. Of course, I have to make the logistics work, but there are pockets of places where this concept will work beautifully. It will be grown from there.

My goal is to be performing, at least part-time by 2017. Together, we will do this

Here are a couple of videos of my former music partner, Laren Corie, and me performing at The Well house concert series. It's a great way to hear how I sound in this type of setting!
