Who is Donna Klein?

Like a precious gem in a unique setting, I contain many facets. I've been a musician since I was a young girl. I've been surrounded by art all of my life. My father was a commercial artist; an ad man from 1960s New York City. He owned his own studio in the 1970s and 80s. He taught me about commercial art and graphic design, and I worked with him on and off for quite a few years before he retired.

I grew up in the New York City area in the borough of Hawthorne, New Jersey. I raised my family mostly in St. Petersburg, Florida. Now, my home is in picturesque Presque Isle County, Michigan.

Earning a degree was always on my radar screen. With the kids grown, it was time for me to finally do it! Living 50 miles from the nearest community college was challenging at best. I tried driving to Alpena Community College for one semester. After a tire flew off my car on my way home from classes one night, I knew there had to be a better way. I found that Lansing Commmunity College had an online program for a degree in business, specializing in e-business. So, I switched schools.

Five years and 90 credits later, I have that degree and a certificate in web development. I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa and graduated summa cum laude. I will walk across the stage and get my diploma in May, 2016 (I officially graduated in December, 2015, but the school has one ceremony per year). I didn't get to graduate with my class at Hawthorne High School, so traveling 225 miles (each way) to be a part of this ceremony is well worth the effort!

Some have asked why I don't continue on and earn a bachelor's degree, after all I'm basically two thirds of the way to one right now and graduated with a 3.98 GPA. Well, between mounting student loan debt and what I want to do with the rest of my life, I really need to make what I've earned work before making any more decisions. I love learning. I love the process of learning. I doubt I will ever stop learning, but will go about it in a different way for a while. I engage in continuing education with music and web development. It's a personal and professional requirement.
